Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles) This image contains various symbolisms. It features women taking palm fronds and rejoicing before the LORD. They are carrying leafy branches for the construction of the booths. It is said that God dwells among us during Sukkot. The palm branch motif was used to decorate fine palaces and even the temple. Palm branches were used to welcome the king and scripture promises us that one day we too will be holding palm branches in our hands. The rock on which Jerusalem is built also stands for many things. It reminds of the rock at Horeb, which was struck and water came out of it for the people and their livestock to drink. Deuteronomy 8:15 says that "God led the Israelites through the vast and dreadful desert, that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes and scorpions. He brought them water out of hard rock." God will always provide even in the desert. It hints of Horesh in the Desert of Ziph and the spring at Ein Ghedi, the place where David hid in caves and spent a great deal time in preparation for something greater. No wonder the scripture is full of references to the rock like: "He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he". "There is no Rock like our God". "The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer". "My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn (strength) of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior-from violent men you save me". It also warns that only things we build on the rock will not be shaken. "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock". "He is like a man building a house, which dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built". It also tells us that the rock is Yeshua (for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Yeshua). Furthermore, the scripture speaks that: "On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem." and "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and let him drink. As the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him. The image also pictures the five virgins, who were ready and went in with Him to the wedding banquet. They are ready to step out in faith and walk on water, because they focus on God and not the circumstances. The sunset symbolizes that the time is near. There is not much time left until midnight. Are you ready? |
